Tradition Meets Modern Design

Maddi Krulicki is a mixed Indigenous and settler graphic designer based in Chilliwack, BC, on Stó:lō Territory. As a member of Snuneymuxw First Nation with additional maternal ancestry from Sqwá First Nation, Maddi's work is shaped by her cultural roots and family history in design.

Raised in a family of designers, Maddi learned artistic techniques and cultural knowledge from her mother, Bon Graham, a carrier of Contemporary Coast Salish design, and technical skills from her father, a specialist in apparel graphic design.

Through Indigitze Designs, Maddi combines contemporary design, technical expertise, and cultural research to create thoughtful work across branding, apparel, merchandise, signage, and custom artwork.

Coast salish LACROSSE Logos

Western Red Cedar — x̱pá:yelhp

Inspired by the sacred connection between traditional lacrosse sticks and the land, the cedar trees pass their energy to the Xwelmexw below, symbolizing the responsibilities of Stó:lō Tómiyeqw.

Bear — spá:th

Drawing from traditional stories of the sky creatures and four-legged animals playing for the Creator, two bears come together to form one larger bear, symbolizing individual players uniting as a team.

Sasquatch — sásq'ets

Rooted in Stó:lō stories and the traditions of Sts’ailes territory, sásq'ets represents a powerful caretaker protecting the land. The design honours the cultural connections between Sasquatch & S’ólh Téméxw.

Eagle — sp'óq'es

Inspired by the eagle’s role as a messenger to the Creator, two facing eagles represent lacrosse as a traditional means of resolving conflict through reciprocity, connection, and mutual respect.

Rooted in the Indigenous history of lacrosse as the Creator’s Game, this collection of custom logos draws on Coast Salish teachings, stories, and connections to the land. Each design carries its own meaning, celebrating the spiritual, cultural, and communal significance of the game while bringing traditional symbolism into contemporary sports branding. Indigitize conducted purposeful research in order to carry forward accurate cultural teachings into every design.

Originally created for a local lacrosse team, the logos were designed for practical application across uniforms and apparel, with customized colours to complement team branding.

Jersey mockups and simplified one colour versions demonstrate the versatility of each design across practice jerseys, T-shirts, hoodies, and other merchandise.
